Honorable A. K. McClure was a strong supporter and confidant of Lincoln. His beautiful home, Norland was burned. (Today the campus of Wilson College.) He was in Harrisburg but his wife Matilda was given 10 minutes to get out of the house. They plundered the valuables before the burning of her house and then with help of family and friends, she walked to within 3 miles of Shippensburg. Daniel Ridgway Knight , the famous painter, was one friend who helped Mrs. McClure.
