Rachel Bowman came to Pennsylvania after her marriage to Samuel Cormany and boarded at a house on South Main Street. She writes in her journal that the "widows" talked the rebels out of burning their house. That 's what saved them. Originally from Canada, she didn't want to stay in America any longer.
